“We certainly are happy with the collaboration… your work is the final piece which lifts the project to another level.” Gert Halbgebauer, Bates Smart

Located on a quiet stretch of the Balmain shoreline in Sydney’s Harbour, this sophisticated residential development answers the inner-city need for CBD convenience alongside village vibrancy. Working with, and catering to the needs of, developer, architect and local council, the signage package supports residents, visitors and public access across an integrated range of building, wayfinding and interpretive solutions.

Intrinsic characteristics of the urban waterfront locale were considered in the typography, colour and materiality of signage narratives. From the reflective qualities of the Harbour to the suede-like softness of the local sandstone, colour and materiality responds to the immediate landscape as well as the intentions of the architect’s built form.

An important site in Indigenous history and to colonial maritime commerce, information from archaeological consultants and local council is incorporated into a series of elegant interpretive panels that highlight the rich and varied history of the site for both visitors and residents without overshadowing the tranquil shoreline boardwalk they are part of.
