Lily Pad

Green. It’s more often than not at the top of the list of ‘colours I don’t like’ for most of our clients. But the brief for this apartment refurbishment was “I’d like my house to be like a Lily”.

Our response was to work with multiple shades of green and crisp white across both soft and hard surfaces. Inspiration for the greens and a rich purple were drawn from the E Phillips Fox artworks that take pride of place in the living area. The combination creates a feeling of wellbeing and tree-top (or pond-like) serenity – calm, but full of life.

Client briefs are not always so cryptic (or eloquent) but this project was an exception in many ways. A smooth transition for Robin Boyd’s wife – then in her 80’s – from their iconic Walsh Street, South Yarra house into another landmark Boyd building, the high-rise Domain Park Flats overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens.
