Aerial
An inimitable eyrie of elegance and ease perched atop Melbourne’s most iconic skyline
As a 40th floor penthouse perched atop Melbourne’s most iconic skyline, Aerial is an inimitable eyrie of elegance and ease.
Located on the city’s premier leafy boulevard, the St Kilda Road residence feels lofty yet grounded and has views from every room showcasing landmark buildings, the Arts Centre Spire, MCG, the Shrine of Remembrance, Government House and beyond.
When the client first moved in, the palette and fit out of the apartment was very dark. His brief to Nexus Designs was to imbue a sense of sanctuary and calm on high. The process began by looking at the building and its context, and creating a palette of deep blues, soft greens and greys inspired by the sky, park views and urban surrounds.
Oak flooring was laid over the entire floorplate, which anchored the space as flowing and tactile, and a custom hand-scratched plaster finish was added to several walls to bring an earthy strength. An entirely new kitchen was created with custom joinery that moves from conceal to reveal, and a timber-lined snug was integrated to offer an inner sanctum as a counterpoint to the otherwise capacious dwelling.
The result is an aerial oasis fit for pleasure, purpose and beyond.
