Tapestry Foundation Australia

The refreshed visual identity signals a new direction for the organisation: one that is more concise, modern, optimistic and colourful.

Tapestry Foundation Australia is a private philanthropic organisation dedicated to the advancement of tapestry in Australia. It funds activities that promote the art of tapestry in Australia and directly commissions the weaving of tapestries and donates them to public institutions. Managed by a dedicated Board of Trustees, all of whom have a deep commitment to both the Foundation and the promotion of tapestry in Australia, it also supports activities such as lectures, exhibitions and conferences.

Nexus Designs first advised the truncation of its name from The Tapestry Foundation of Australia to Tapestry Foundation Australia, with the goal of making it simpler, shorter and more adaptive for digital display. Research into the national and international landscape of foundations, arts and culture was then undertaken to clarify a visual strategy for the brand architecture that would enable and amplify the transformation of the identity.

The previous Garamond Small Caps traditional letterpress typeface is an old “display style” used predominantly for letterheads and popular with legal, financial and authority organisations. In its place Stone Informal now lends contemporaneity, clarity and crispness, accompanied by a logomark referencing tapestry in its verticality, movement, layering and connections.

With principles including generosity, collaboration, support, engagement, education, optimism and trust, the brand identity finds its power in a visual language that is bold, open and direct, with a flexibility that can be applied across multiple platforms in myriad ways.
