The fit-out of the iconic MV Sorrento Ferry was the careful consideration of commercial requirements and stringent building regulations alongside playful storytelling. We entirely reimagined the space planning of the cafe, bar and retail areas, streamlining staff and customer movements and creating clear divides between the service and relaxation areas of the vessel. Unashamedly referencing the ‘glory days of seafaring through bold sailor stripes and sea rope detailing’, as described by Monocle Magazine, we specified marine-grade materials alongside softer detailing such as seat pads that reference ship port holes. Tied together with a bright and engaging integrated signage and wayfinding system, people’s imaginations were captured, connecting them to the marine environment and the movement of their ocean journey.
